Alan Fitzpatrick
Biography
2011 was the year Alan Fitzpatrick made the transition to become a globally recognized talent. Having enjoyed a rapid ascent since his emergence as the new kid on the techno block in the latter half of 2008, Fitzpatrick now enjoys a status as a highly respected and in-demand producer and DJ. Asked to compile a converted BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in November 2011, Alan responded with a two-hour snapshot of exclusive productions and unreleased tracks that generated an overwhelmingly positive reaction from old and new fans alike. Coming off the back of high profile releases for Adam Beyer’s Drumcode (Human Reason collaboration with Beyer himself), John Digweed’s Bedrock label (Moon Palace was awarded a BBC Radio 1 Essential New Tune) and Alan’s own 8 Sided Dice imprint (Alan’s First Times collaboration with techno pioneer Cari Lekebusch was the 2011 highlight) there can be few followers of techno worldwide who would not recognize Alan Fitzpatrick as one of the most influential artists of the moment. With more music forthcoming on Drumcode; collaborations planned with Gary Beck and Joseph Capriati and debut tours of South America, Asia and Australia to come in 2012, there will be even fewer who have yet to discover Alan Fitzpatrick by the end of the year.
It has been Alan’s partnership with Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label that has produced his most significant work to date; releasing three chart topping EP’s (Static, Face Of Rejection, Insurgent Series) in addition to his Shadows In The Dark album - the first act to record an album on Drumcode since 2005 and latterly remixed by Adam Beyer & Jesper Dahlback, Mark Broom and Gary Beck - plus the universally supported Human Reason collaboration with Adam Beyer and Alan’s Running Backwards contribution to the labels 15 Year Anniversary compilation. Elsewhere, Fitzpatrick’s releases for Bedrock (Reflections, Moon Palace) and his own 8 Sided Dice imprint (First Times collaboration with Cari Lekebusch, Blixx, The Heist, Straw Hats, Amsterdam, 9 Hours Later) have raised the young producers profile to a level where his remix services have been recruited by John Digweed, Slam, Joey Beltram, Timo Maas, Dustin Zahn & Joel Mull, Pascal Mollin, Alex Bau and Sian. Indeed, such has been Fitzpatrick’s dominance of the techno scene since his emergence that it is clear this is an artist with a flourishing career ahead of him.
The same unstoppable momentum has come to characterize Alan’s style of techno; powering demand for his music worldwide, and filling his gig diary with weekends spent touring Europe, North America and South America as a bonafide member of techno’s producer vanguard. Focusing on his trademark sound of tough, hooky grooves and incendiary beats, Alan is an intuitive and dynamic DJ who is enjoying the new lease of life that Pioneer CDJ2000 players have brought to the art of DJing. Alan’s big-room techno sound has seen him consistently draw crowds in Germany (Tresor, Rote Sonne, Club Lehmann, Universal DOG), France (Rex, Batafor, Inox, Spartacus, SKandalo) The Netherlands (Paradiso, Westerunie, Sugar Factory, Doornroosje, Poema), UK (Fabric - including NYE 2011 w/ Adam Beyer and Slam, The Arches) Italy (Old River Park, Rasmonan), USA (Sullivan Rooms New York, Incognito Los Angeles, Treehouse Miami), Switzerland (La Zoo, D-Club, Das Schiff) and Eastern Europe (Kiwi Lithuania, Forsage Ukraine) plus Drumcode events at SW4 Festival London, Berghain Berlin, Ewer Street Warehouse London, Awakenings Rotterdam and as well as key festivals including Piknic Electronik Montreal, Kazantip Ukraine, Streetparade Zurich, Refresh Portugal and Sziget Hungary.
Catch Alan Fitzpatrick, Scarlett Etienne, Jeremy Olander, Ape-x and our resident Ché Armstrong, at our ‘Pryda Friends - £5 PAYBACK’ at Digital, Newcastle on 18/05/12.

Scarlett Etienne
Biography
Scarlett Etienne is one of the hottest properties on the music scene right now – name-checked by the likes of Sasha (who named her “Breakthrough DJ of 2008” in the Top 100 issue of DJMag), signed up to represent Pioneer Pro DJ, and dressed by fashion heavyweight Matthew Williamson, she’s equally at home in the dance press as she is in Vogue.
One of a rising breed of young producers permeating the London club scene, Scarlett delivers a unique sound cultivated through a life-long love of music. Born in Hong Kong to a US military family, Scarlett stunned her parents by climbing onto the piano stool while still a toddler and playing whatever she heard by ear. Music lessons followed, with Scarlett playing in bands throughout her teens, adding the electric guitar to her prodigious piano talent. After travelling across the world, she settled in New York City at 18, while there her revelatory discovery of dance music left her classical leanings at the wayside.
An avid clubland face, she spent time perfecting her own deck skills, inspired by NYC DJs Danny Tenaglia, Larry Tee, and Junior Vasquez, soon landing her first residency in the early Noughties at New York’s Sound Factory. Her sets quickly caught the ears of the DJ A-list who guested at the club, and before long Scarlett found herself invited overseas. Over the next few years she proceeded to evolve her sound and establish her own distinct style on the international club scene.
It was through Crosstown Rebels impresario Damian Lazarus, that she was offered her UK debut at the Crosstown Rebels party, Out Of Order at The End in London. Her inspired performances triggered bookings for residencies at Tribal Sessions, Manchester, Alter Ego and Il Muretto in Italy, and a spot on the roster of the prestigious Excession agency in the UK.
As well as gracing the decks in countries far and wide on a regular basis, Scarlett has enjoyed a prolific production partnership with Audiofly. “Loose Lips Sync Ships” was signed to the prestigious German label Boxer and a second track; “Earsex” released on Kevin Griffiths’ label Tsuba. A recent rediscovery of the piano and writing music alongside her productions has found Scarlett moonlighting as a singer/songwriter, performing her own synth pop tracks both on stage and mid set when the urge takes her. Her unbridled passion for all things music led Scarlett to launch her own label in 2010; Starlett Records releases her own productions with remixes from the likes of Joe and Will Ask and Mat Playford, and awaits the discovery of new, unsigned talent.
Her diverse schedule currently includes gigs, cabaret shows, fashion shows, DJ mixes (including a guest mix for NME Radio and podcast on itunes where you can catch all her DJ mixes and other Starlett artists’ mixes), looking for new artists to sign, productions, and more. And despite so many different influences and passions, from MGMT to Cocteau Twins, Jay-Z to Tchaikovsky, and Lady Gaga to Simian Mobile Disco, Scarlett’s “total obsession with synthesisers” ultimately drives her style. “My music is total party music” she says, “it’s always punchy, dramatic and electronically influenced.”
Scarlett has now signed to the Mainstage Artists roster. 2011 will see her working with Pioneer Pro DJ after they took her innovative ideas on board to develop the CDJ-2000 for the digital DJ. She is also working closely with Native Instruments to incorporate their cutting-edge software, including Guitar Rig, into her live sets. From 15 minute sets to accompany fashion shows (she has compiled her first soundtrack for the runway show for Ziad Ghanem’s iconic Autumn/Winter 2010/11 Haute Couture collection at Somerset House for London Fashion Week 2010) to full DJ sets and live performances, Scarlett’s star continues to ascend as she stamps her imaginative style on dancefloors and stages across the globe.

Q&A (From recent Mix Mag interview)
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A Rock Star.
What’s the worst club you’ve been to?
I played at this club in Palma de Mallorca quite a long time ago. What transpired is probably too politically incorrect to put into print, so I’ll just tell you that it was just…dark times. Something that Larry David would write into a club scene on Curb Your Enthusiasm. Cringe.
What’s been your worst job?
Picking dresses up off the floor of changing rooms and fulfilling the demands of wealthy women and their snot-nosed children in a posh fashion boutique in Texas.
What are you obsessed with right now?
How to go about being as awesome as Nile Rodgers. Buy his book Le Freak and read it, there are few individuals in this world who are as warm and wonderful as he is.
And what do you hate right now?
People who sit behind their computers and hurl abuse at respectable artists on social networks, youtube, and forums all day long. More pity than hatred.
When and where were you your happiest?
On top of a surfboard, over the waves of Malibu, some time last year.
How do you describe what you do to someone who doesn’t know you?
I play records for people in nightclubs and dance around and stuff. I also write music and play instruments.
Have you ever been arrested? And if so what for?
No. I’m a lady.
What’s the best record ever made?
Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence
What’s the coolest thing in your house?
My Roland tr-808 drum machine.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever had?
Be yourself and no-one else.
Who’s your all-time hero and why?
Madonna. People can say what they like about her, but let’s be completely honest, she’s the queen of f*cking everything.
What do you collect – apart form records?
Synthesizers.
What’s your vice?
Video Games. What were you doing at 2pm last Sunday afternoon?
I was in my room at the W Hotel, Hong Kong watching a recap of the Grammys on a flatscreen over the bathtub, covered in bubbles.
What’s your answer to everything?
What would Tiga do?
What’s your most prized possession that you’ve still got from when you were a kid?
My Simon & Patrick Luthier 12-string guitar. I sold my Harley Davidson leather jacket and all my Metallica, Green Day, and Beck CDs to acquire it. I was 12.
What was your last treat for yourself?
A burrito from Chipotle, this afternoon. Extra guacamole.
What can’t you live without?
A good facial moisturizer.
Do you have a recurring dream?
The one where my teeth fall out, and the one where I’m pregnant / giving birth / unable to give birth / giving birth to strange things, usually when I’ve been writing songs or been in the studio a lot. Far-out.
What’s the worst item of clothing you’ve ever worn?
I actually owned a pair of Birkenstocks when I lived in San Francisco. What the hell was that all about? I think I was attempting to embrace Californian culture.
If you had a Tardis, what time would you go to?
1000 years into the future, to witness all of the advancements in technology, the course that music has taken, and to see if we’ve made friends with aliens yet.
What’s your lamest claim to fame?
I performed as a backup singer for Shania Twain at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas once. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with country music, y’all.

Menno de Jong
Biography
Menno de Jong is primarily known as a DJ with an international following, though he is also an accomplished producer and the founder of Intuition Recordings. Based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, de Jong was born on March 17, 1984, in Den Helder and was interested in music — classical as well as modern — at a young age.
While he took up DJing as a teenager, he first established himself as a producer with the release of “Guanxi” on the British label Anjunabeats in 2004. Later that year, he released a few additional productions: “Second Thoughts” as Sayla on Dedicated Holland, “Watermark” as Halcyon on Captured Music, and “Millionfold” as Myth on Remark Records. The success of these initial productions inspired de Jong to found his own label, Intuition Recordings. Intuition made its debut in 2005, and the second release on the label was de Jong’s own “Tundra.” Like “Guanxi” and “Second Thoughts” before it, “Tundra” proved popular within the trance community and was championed by many of the style’s leading DJs, including Tiesto and Armin van Buuren. Successive releases such as “Spirit”, “Last Light Tonight” and “Better World” followed, as did numerous remixes, yet in accordance with his rising profile, de Jong began to busy himself primarily as a DJ. He went on to perform at superclubs all over the world as well as at dance music festivals such as Nature One, Global Gathering and Creamfields.
In 2007 he released his first official mix CD, Intuition Sessions: South Africa, which showcased his label. In 2010 the second volume themed Rio de Janeiro was released, showcasing the broad style of trance & progressive heard in his DJ sets.
2011 sees Menno de Jong moving back to songwriting and studio work, returning to the production front with high energy tracks such as “Turtle Paradise”, “Place In The Sun” featuring the vocals of Ellie Lawson and the more laid back “Stardust”.

Solis & Sean Truby
Q&A
What did you want to be when you grew up?
Solis: A bit of a cliché but a footballer.
Sean Truby: I was never sure. I always just played things by ear.
What’s the worst club you’ve been to?
Solis: I’ve been to many a dive in my time, but the main one that springs to mind was a small club I used to go to as a youngster. A great night, but sticky carpets galore.
Sean Truby: In this country probably the Cooperage, but have been to some shit holes in other parts of Europe also.
What’s been your worst job?
Solis: Possibly working in a newsagents when I was at college.
Sean Truby: I’ve never had a ‘proper’ job because as soon as I left college I took up music full time.
What are you obsessed with right now?
Solis: Making music and Polish larger.
Sean Truby: Making music, drinking and partying.
And what do you hate right now?
Solis: Cold weather and pop music.
Sean Truby: Tonic water. The hate started when I accidently bought fizzy water instead of normal water when I was on my way back from a club in Ibiza.
When and where were you your happiest?
Solis: When I’m either in the studio or spending quality time with my family. Good times!
Sean Truby: When we realise we are on the verge of making a brilliant track, or when you hear the world’s biggest DJs playing our music. Apart from that, I’d say when I’m out in bars and clubs with my friends.
How do you describe what you do to someone who doesn’t know you?
Solis & Sean Truby: We make/play simple beats that will desecrate a club.
Have you ever been arrested, and if so, what for?
Solis: Never, I’mtoo much of a good boy for things like that, although I’ve been close a few times.
Sean Truby: Just once for D&D but I was only 16 at the time.
What’s the best record ever made?
Solis: Traveller’s ‘Brightsign’. My heart melts just thinking about it.
Sean Truby: Sorry but I can never answer this question. Honestly too many to say because it depends what sort of mood I am in.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever had?
Solis: Never give up and don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t achieve.
Sean Truby: Don’t drink on an empty stomach.
Who’s your all-time hero and why?
Solis: Paul Van Dyk for a number of reasons. To be at the top of your game for the time he has been is incredible.
Sean Truby: Sean Tyas. I’ve been heavily influenced by him, and have learnt so many of my production skills and ideas just by listening to his productions, and the amount of energy he can pack into a track is ridiculous.
What do you collect – apart form records?
Solis: Stamps. No just kidding, I don’t really collect anything other than music to be honest. Maybe I should start?
Sean Truby: Again, just music. As far as I can think…
What’s your vice?
Solis: Orange and green Fruitgums, and a bit of Take That.
Sean Truby: Beer
What’s your answer to everything?
Solis: Why not!
Sean Truby: Go on then.
What’s your most prized possession that you’ve still got from when you were a kid?
Solis: Probably my football trophies.
Sean Truby: Nothing springs to mind.
What was your last treat for yourself?
Solis: A set of CDJ900’s which I adore.
Sean Truby: Intel i-7 HP Laptop with 1TB Hard drive and 8GB Ram.
What can’t you live without?
Solis: Again a bit of a cliché but its gotta be music. Running my own record label and producing helps feed my habit, but the thought of ever giving it up is frightening actually. I listen to music no matter what mood I’m in, and it helps me get through the day.
Sean Truby: Same as above actually.
Do you have a recurring dream?
Solis: I don’t, although I suffer from terrible night terrors when my mind is working over time.
Sean Truby: I’m playing at Global Gathering and the left CDJ starts skipping in front of thousands of people. Haha - Just joking. I don’t have one, however I do get some horrific dreams after a big weekend.
What’s the worst item of clothing you’ve ever worn?
Solis: Gotta be the good old sweatbands, although they were mega cool at the time. haha
Sean Truby: Not exactly clothing but I attempted curtains as a hair do when I was a lot younger, but it didn’t work.
If you had a Tardis, what time would you go to?
Solis: My first Ibiza holiday. Memories!
Sean Truby: Ibiza. Either at the boat party or at Ushuaia!
What’s your lamest claim to fame?
Solis: I bumped into Gok Wan in Heathrow airport 2 years ago whilst flying out to Florida.
Sean Truby: I saw Kevin off Coronation Street in a shop at a caravan park when I was about 13.
